Here is just a quick update on Mr Avery. We went and met with an Ear Nose and Throat specialist today about all the issues that were discussed in the previous post that have been going on with Avery for the last 7 months or so. To our relief mixed with a some anxiety it was determined today that his Tonsils and Adenoids are the issue. Avery has enlarged tonsils/adenoids that are blocking the tube in his ear that drains fluid. As a result of this fluid has built up behind his ear drum that has been allowing bacteria to grow and fester there. This is the reason he has been getting ear infections so frequently. While the antibiotics that they put him on gets rid of the bacteria it does not help with the issue of enlarged tonsils which is why his cough has never gone away. So the result is a tonsillectomy in a few weeks (once the referral goes through Tricare) and they are going to remove both his tonsils and adenoids as well as place a tube in both of his ears to help drain the fluid that has started to solidify behind his ear drum. His doctor is worried that if the tonsils don't come out it could start to affect his speech and development, and while there is some worry we are very grateful to have found the root of the problem and to have a doctor who is willing to act quickly before we move to Delaware. The procedure will be done in their office and takes approx. 30-45 minutes after which Avery will be allowed to come home with us. Recovery is roughly 7-9 days but he will be able to play and run as normal, we will just have to push lots of fluids and make sure he is eating properly. We will of course keep everyone updated once we make the date and hope that you will all send out a little prayer for our little guy that everything goes smoothly and we will see the happy bright little boy we knew before all this started! ReplyDeleteI am so glad you have answers!! What a relief. I hope we get some soon for Riv too...he has a sleep study on Saturday to try and figure out if we can get his tonsils out too. Your little man will be in my prayers, and I know he will be fine. I am sure this will be the best thing for him!! xo
